The tenth annual conference of the Asia-Pacific Early Christian Studies Society (APECSS) to be held at St Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI), St Petersburg, Russia, from Friday morning, 9 September to Sunday afternoon, 11 September, 2016.

The Society welcomes all proposals that explore any theme relevant to the early Christian world from the New Testament to the end of Late Antiquity, and especially those that focus on this year’s theme: Survival of Early Christian Traditions.

Sources for the study of early Christianity are often limited to documents datable to the first five or six centuries of the Christian era (even if preserved in later copies). Nevertheless, in addition, there are a number of early Christian scriptural, theological, historical, hagiographical, canonical, and liturgical texts and traditions that are preserved (sometimes exclusively so) within much later documents, often contaminated with later material as quotations and the like, but still distinguishable. Recovering the early Christian content from such medieval material requires tracing the whole line of transmission, requiring interdisciplinary skill of specialists in medieval and early Christianity. Where such work has been done it contributes immeasurably to our appreciation and understanding of the earlier periods.
